Just a quick word of warning – Facebook is making lots of changes to their Facebook Fan Pages and many of the specialist add-ons no longer work. It’s a frustrating time for all concerned.

Now on to the crux of the matter – Facebook – has been trying to contain and promote its internal application rather than allowing outside services to gain some of the action. An example could be Photos – you can upload as many photos as you like to Facebook – but you cannot import or share photos from saying Picasa or Flickr. In effect means your workload doubles, from the album set up to captions or mapping your photos.
There is only one real solution here – You must have a Facebook Strategy. You must make proper use of Facebook, to target your users and apply your ideas in an effective, structured and efficient manner – if you like Facebook is growing up and we have to grow with it.
Facebook is signing a lot of deals at the moment – direct Skype calling this morning, Bing yesterday. They’re expanding to ensure Facebook remains key to people’s lives, which they want to control. That is not always a good thing, but this post is not about the moral dilemmas here.
So – if you want to reach 500 million people of a certain computer owning, white collar, youngish (average age 46), fashion consciousness, city dwelling, largely English speaking and not all in the US potential customer – you really need Facebook.
It’s time to do it properly.

UPDATE:
It has also been noted that Google Analytics Tracking of Facebook Pages has been disabled by Facebook – basically meaning you are reliant on Facebook Insights – it is another indication that a separate Facebook Strategy is required – remember successful analytics rely on the change in numbers over time – not the actual numbers.
