Page Load Speed is everything

So, I’m in Brazil and now I see why Google has put such eminence emphasis on Page Load Speed, here in the mountains of the Atlantic Jungle, not really all that far from Rio de Janeiro we’re completely dependent on a 4G mobile network for internet access.

Some websites work – www.airbnb.com took 40 seconds to fully download, while others I won’t name take an absolute age.  But what’s the deal here, I’m on a mobile, I’m away from home, yet I’m potentially just as much a customer here as I ever was at home. I’m looking for a nice gift to leave my hosts, I’m looking at hotel information, flights, holiday destinations, products to buy and websites that I work for.  Do I want to do this quickly – YES.

As we move to a more mobile world, we need to be more available than ever, in the old days we worried about screen size or perhaps what Browser someone used, we worried if more than 10% of people would struggle to view our website.  Think browsers and the insistence to make it IE8 or IE9 compatible, when so few people were using these browsers anyway.

The stats today for all the website we run at NCompass are simply, anywhere between 30% to 60% of users are viewing your websites on a mobile device.  Now are you still going to ignore Page Load Speed?  If your website is slow to load it will effect at least 30% of your visitors no matter if the website is optimised for Mobile or not.

So – this post is a bit of an appeal to you – if you want me to test your website for it’s Page Speed in Brazil and tell you how long it takes to download the pages – then let me know right here, leave a comment and I’ll send you the results.  it will be slow – but just how slow is the question.
