New Canon Camera Adventures

Just made it to Paris and have had a bit of an adventure with our Camera, my daughter in an effort to change the batteries undid all the screws on the camera and suitably lost them. A number of weeks passed.

Then out on our new boat I went to take some photos and the camera fell apart, end of camera. So off to Pixmania went I, I decided on a Canon Ixus 70 as this followed our Canon Ixus 40, it used the same batteries, charger and case for which these e-site all want extra cash. So deciding which canon camera was best was fairly limited.

However, I though I would check the price a little bit, but Pixmania was definately the cheapest, I made the purchase. A few days later Pixmania started asking all sorts of security questions, why was it been delievery to my office and not my home address, could I send photocopies of my passport and utility bills and the like. Well I didn’t like that and upon talking to the agent he advised I cancel the order and re order as these security checks were random.

How true this turned out to be and more importantly what a complete waste of time. What is the purpose of random checks, all it does is annoy real customers, while fraudsters soon learn of the ‘random’ and just cancel and reorder again.

As a final nail in the coffin I am an Amazon Associate so I can get an extra % off anything purchased through Amazon, so I reordered through the Amazon website selecting a new or used camera from the Pixmania Shop listed at Amazon, I ended up with the lowest price and a further 6% discount. All in all a great deal.

All was not quite so straightforward though… I have used Pixmania many times before and always had great service, decent billing and been generally happy, but going through Amazon seems to have mucked up my delivery address, billing address and all sorts of other bits and pieces, clearly Pixmania prefer it if you order through their website and in reality the Amazon/Pixmania reseller agreement is just another way to get to market.

I am sure they’ll sort all this out, but meanwhile a week later I am still waiting for my camera.

  1. They messed up the delivery and missed the time frame, Camera is still not delivered to my knowledge. These e-commerce companies can still clearly only deal with a straightforward no complication order, as soon as you contact their service department you are done for.

    I now have to cancel or re arrange this order.
