iGoogle – Your Control Panel

I read a question today asking a panel of experts how they keep up in their chosen field of expertise and this is a very important question – with news, opinion and recommendation being thrown at your every hour of every day – just how do you manage to keep control over all this information overload.
The answer given by most panalists was reassuring to say the least, because they do exactly what I do and use a mixture of RSS feeds and iGoogle to organise what is important to them.
So what are these services:
- RSS Feeds – this are basically lists of articles, almost every news services, Blog and many websites that may interest you have some sort of RSS Feed. You click the link and you’re asked how you want to manage the news that you will get. If you select Google Reader, then like me – you’ll be able to read the news supplied in one long and organised list.
Think of RSS Feeds as your personal newspaper, where you will only ever read the articles from the newspapers and journalists of your choice.
- iGoogle, comes into this equation because it takes things one step further. It’s you personal Home Page and can list RSS Feeds, links to websites, links to services, access your email, have todo lists, calendars and much much more, all from a single page. There’s no clicking or linking to other places, it’s all there right in front of you.
iGoogle can be set up as a ‘snapshot’ of your on-line life. It very useful.
If you have not tried iGoogle I really recommend you do as it can be an absolute hub for your chosen field of expertise. Now with Google+ or Google Plus as the latest social media service, iGoogle is going to be more important than ever. If you have a website, then you should use iGoogle.
