Monthly Tip – Input Devices

I thought this month to keep things brief, it just struck me that we haven’t really look at something you can do for a while.

I’m always recommending clients update their own websites, social, blogs and all the rest so this month I thought I’d consider Input Devices.

First up, by input devices I mean any tool you can use to access and update some part of your website. The idea I’d why do you have to wait until you’re sitting at your desk, you almost certainly have the tools you need on you you all the time.

  • The most obvious input device is your computer or laptop… Straightforward you can update any website, Facebook, blog all from the comfort of your office or home. Great easy one.
  • Then there’s your iPad or tablet computer. Samsung’s Galaxy has rave reviews and using the Google Android system is perfectly set up for updating a blog or whatever.
  • Next comes your mobile or smartphone, actually it is surprisingly easy to update Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest.. And if you settle into the way of it, you blog as well… And if you have built your website on a content management system you can often use that on your smartphone, WordPress is the obvious example.
  • Older mobiles too are perfectly legitimate ways to up date things, Facebook, Twitter and even some blogs have SMS functionality, send an SMS and your update will be published online.

And the final obvious input device (I’m not looking to be to far fetched here) is your friends or families mobile, computer or tablet… All perfectly possible for you to run off a quick blog post, all you need is a password.

Tools of the trade:

If its an iPhone, iPad or Android powered device there is an App for it. 99% chance it will be free to, WordPress  Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and LinkedIn all have dedicated Apps to make your life easier.

All of these also have websites and if you know the password you’re good to go.

And finally if you are using an older mobile just find out what the email address or SMS number is for your Facebook etc. and add these to your contact address list.

So what’s the take home. Well I’ve written this post in less than 10 minutes on my iPad using the Blogger App.. So easy it’s not true, but really the key is preparation… Preparation is everything.

Have the tools available to you on your input device and then if you do need them they will be there.
