What’s Next
I feel that a major role of this small update from me that you get each month is to try and pass what I learn as I go along.
With that in mind a question I recently posed to some journalists the other day. What’s next after mobile. I have not heard back from them, but I have been thinking about it. Here are some just around the corner ideas.
Touch Screen
This is the obvious one, we’ve heard of the iPad, we’ve used the Mobiles – the next big thing could well be touch screen Monitors on our desktops. Take a look at www.dell.co.uk for what is available right now.
Virtual Humans
All ready working and available, imagine talking to someone within your computer a virtual assitent (not Clippie), but someone who can do things for you, find address, make phone calls, you can just talk, smile and be normal. Imagine just talking to your computer as if it ws a person. www.bbc.co.uk.
Cloud Computing
So we’re moving on from Social Networks, there is only one way to go and that’s up. Everything joined, everything available to everyone. It’s coming and it has been done. Want a new computer, for nothing, now, just go to www.icloud.com. Virtual computers accessible from any computer.
Okay so these ideas are slightly tongue in cheek, but they exist, the work now, they can be brought and used right now, and they are not expensive. For more information please click the links to see what they are about, but you have to ask, what’s next after mobile?

I wouldn't say that Desktops are old hat just yet, but yes a lot will move onto the Cloud. But it's what we will do with the Desktop, that might yet be exciting. Will we really treat it as a 'person'?
umm! Yes for the first time for ages I can see the desktop computer becoming rather old hat. I can see a time very soon where computing power resides in the cloud as does storage. All you need to do is subscribe and have a variety of new devices for what you need at the time. Instead of owning music you'll just subscribe to it. Instead of by MS Office you'll rent the functionality on a pay as you go basis. If you are a Photoshop or In Design professional you'll do the same. Nothing to update, nothing to maintain, it's all done in the cloud…just massive storage and a huge variety of apps to use…just need the networks in place!
