Where do we go from here – Nick?

I didn’t write anything yesterday – it’s a hung parliament and when it comes to writing about the result it’s quite different to writing about what the politicians are saying.

Now everyones complaining about the situation, but I actually think this result is exactly what we need as a country. It’s spot on, couldn’t be better and completely vindicates the whole voting system.

While the press are worrying about who’s in charge, what Gordon, Nick or David are going to do – I’m celebrating… we wanted change – well now we’ve got it. So what’s there to shout about!

I really hope Cameron and Clegg get together – they have plenty of differences but they are remarkably similar in places as well. Health, Education, Law and Order, Afghanistan, Iraq all not a problem – Economy – both want to help the poor, reduce tax, simulate growth and reform to make things fairer. Inheritance tax might go, but that’s a small price to pay for the Tories. The Tories have stressed Europe, Electoral Reform and one or two other areas are no-go areas for the LibDems and with only 23% of the national vote the LibDems should be happy with that. A referendum on Europe would finish any LibDem ideas on Europe anyway.

So here’s what I think they do. Cameron is absolutely right to offer the LibDems a big, open invitation to join him in government, the area the LibDems can do most to help is on the Economy and that is where they should put most effort. Cameron and Clegg should present this whole idea as a partnership government to deal with the debt crisis.

As a country the UK has to wake up and realise that we are absolutely going to face the same austerity measures as Greece. We need to virtual halve public spending… it’s not about £6billion – we need to save £100’s of billions. By far the biggest bill we as a country face are peoples wages – virtually 50% of all workers are employed by the government and wages for every single one of them have to cut. Pensions will need to be cut as well and also all those famous tax credits for children, families, working people. It’s all going to have to be cut. Maybe not completely but reduced nonetheless.

Are you seriously telling me that we won’t have Greek type riots if that happens? Our banks are going to burn and people will die – you simply cannot make the cuts that are needed without a considerable degree of social unrest – just look at Greece to see why – it’s only 10million people and you just cannot push people around like that (about the size of London).

However a Cameron/Clegg partnership government with a serious economic coordinated effort that presents these austerity cuts in terms of a battle with the banks might just give the people what they need to get through the tough times ahead.

If I was Cameron or Clegg I’d be calling my government a war cabinet against the National Deficit. And that my dear reader is why our 1st post the post voting system works just so darn well!
