Domain Registrations
I thought this month I should remind clients of the advantages of registering their domain names through us.
Definition:
Domain Registraion is when you effectively ‘rent’ a .com or .co.uk website address for a period of contract.
Types:
You are not limited to .com or .co.uk domain names, there are two principal types. Top Level (.com, .org, .net) and Country Level (.co.uk, .fr, .de).
Legal Requirements:
Top Level Domains have few requirements, however officially .com is for commercial enterprises, .org is for not-for-profit organisations and .net is for Networks or IT companies.
Country Level Domains have legal requirements, particularly european countries. .co.uk is fairly straight forward, but .it (Italy), .fr (France) and others have specific requirements.
Cost of Domain Names:
Domains cost £10-15 for Top Level Domains. However, be aware there are still companies charging £35 and upwards for a single years registration.
