Apple Malware

I am going to write this because I am fed up with the Apple Malware approach – I know people like Apple – I do to, but they are abusing us at every step.  I use iTunes, it’s great – plays all my music beautifully.  I’ve tried other music players, but nothing matches the simplicity of iTunes – yet I know it’s fiddling with my music in the background and also constantly pestering me to buy something.

However, I use VLC Media Player – it’s quite simple the best general purpose video media player out there and it is completely FREE.  But Apple insist on bundling QuickTime with every upgrade of iTunes – in fact you cannot have iTunes without QuickTime and QuickTime is a load of rubbish, worst even than Real Player and that going back a few years (unless you buy QuickTime Pro I assume).

Recently, er actually for about 2 years now, I have noticed the repeated occurrence of MobileMe – it doesn’t ‘do’ anything, in fact the only place I can find it is in my ‘Add/Remove Programs’ in my ‘Control Panel’ – and then it just pops up a username/login message – which I have tried with my Apple ID (something I have to have to have iTunes) to no avail… if I click the ‘Learn More’ button – they want me to buy something… Angry that is the only word I can describe for this.  What is this crapware doing on my computer.

I get rid of it… iTunes wants to be upgraded – it’s BACK – no no no – that is not the way to gain my loyalty.

MobileMe – what is it?  It’s a personal syncing service that syncs my iPhone contacts and ‘finds’ my iPhone should I lose it – if I had one, which I don’t – so what the devil does this do.  It syncs more than just an iPhone – but there is nothing here that I cannot do for free elsewhere.  Gmail, Plaxo, Live, Hotmail, Yahoo all do the same thing for FREE. At $99 per user per year – not likely Steve Jobs.

Okay – so I am being quite hard on Apple – please forgive me, comment on this article – but here’s other thought for you – recently iTunes has also been downloading Safari on my computer – well that’s annoying as well, I was very happy with IE, Firefox or Chrome.  It all reminds me Microsoft.

At the moment everyone loves an Apple – but I am afraid we are all suckers – I no longer even like Apple, I find the mentality behind the Apple dream just plain wrong – for them it is about beating Microsoft and Steve Jobs will not give up his job until he is richer than Bill Gates, it’s just a flawed dream and we are being punished for it.

I’ll launch into iPad in another post another day.
